Bringing the Community Together to Empower Avalanche Education

Stop! Who’s missing? Can Someone call 911? Are there any other hazards? Turn your transceiver to SEARCH! Do you know what to do next with the beacon search?

Wade Lancaster, Sean Sewell, and Will Coleman created Beacon Bash as a way to promote early-season practice with beacon searches and to support the Friends of CAIC.

Originally Planned for the summit parking lot of Berthoud Pass, Lancaster, Sewell, and Coleman realized their event had grown bigger than they imagined and they needed to respect forest services rules about organized events on the pass. What to do? Thanks to Winter Park Resorts, the event relocated to the Winter Park base area.

Learning for Everyone

We work with local avalanche schools and several backcountry vendors to ensure that everyone has access to current avalanche information about continuing education, and the tools they need to be successful in the backcountry.

Continuing Avalanche Education

We create an informative and fun basic beacon and avalanche learning atmosphere to learn new skills and brush up on old skills. With providing information on continuing education programs to address the needs of those who want to take their avalanche education to the highest level. From training on the latest gear technology and new methods, we help make avalanche education fun, engaging and successful.

Supporting Avalanche Weather Forecasts and More

Education happens within the context of a larger community. Our approach extends beyond the school to help ensure our backcountry community has the necessary support to do what they want to do safely in the backcountry.

With the support from our local backcountry community, we have been able to help raise money and support for several other nonprofit avalanche programs better than ever.
